We are all familiar with the teaching about Noach and the Ark, it is a lesson we have heard again and again since childhood. Its all about rain and floods and animals and boats and some guy named Noah…right? Well, yes…I have been listening to this lesson since before I can remember, I have been blessed with hearing an in-depth yearly teaching on this subject for the past 5 years and doubly blessed to actually teach on this topic for the past two years…for as many times as I have heard the account, for as many times as I have read the details, you would think there was nothing else to learn, there was nothing else to see, there was no more reason to read it…and you, and I would be wrong…it’s the Torah, and it is meant to serve your life-time, our life-time, no matter how many times you read the lessons, you contemplate the situations, you revel in the events described, you can’t help but walk away with something new and exciting and wonderful. This year, at least for me, has been no exception. As I read and re-read the text, I was amazed at all of the things that had been there all along that I had somehow missed, I was amazed at the alternate, yet powerful new lesson I was learning from the teaching, at how the words seemed to come to life and illustrate this wonderful truth that I had known all along, but had not really seen in the forefront of this lesson. |
